Trouble Using the Submission Form?

Our site uses Google’s ReCaptcha service. Primarily, this protects us from spammers using our form. However, it also protects our site–and hence our authors–from other malicious actors who might be attempting back-door access to the site and the information it contains.

If you get an orange-colored message that says “Something went wrong,” that means that ReCaptcha has mis-identified your submission as spam. Since you’re not a spammer, the most likely issue has to do with ReCaptcha’s interaction with your browser. According to Google, these interactions can fail for the following kinds of reasons:

  • Outdated Browser. Older browsers might not support ReCaptcha, or might themselves constitute a security risk. Updating your browser to the most current version might fix this problem for you.
  • Browser Extensions and Add-ons. Some ad-blocker and privacy extensions interfere with RecCaptha’s interactions with your browser. Temporarily disabling them might enable you to use the submission form.
  • Cache and Cookies. Sometimes a corrupted cache or cookie can interfere with ReCaptcha’s interaction with your browser. Clearing these might help.
